Drake – “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” (Stream)

D1

Drake decided to do what only a few before him have done successfully and that is drop an unexpected album that sells well.  2 days before Valentines day, the world was treated to “If you’re reading this it’s too late“, the out of the blue album from Drake.  Today the numbers are in…. “535,000 moved first week with 495,000 equating to pure album sales”.  Billboard stated that Drizzy’s surprise album will earn him another number one debut on the charts.  The fact that the album ( well mixtape as Drizzy is dubbing it) moved half a million copies in a little over 3 days is astounding. There were no radio singles, no promotion, no physical copies (all the sales were digital), yet Aubrey damn near went gold in 3 days.  No doubt a remarkable feat.  Through out the album, we get vintage Drake. Whether it’s the “R&B, heart on my sleeveDrizzy or the “braggadocios, trash talkingDrake, we get it all. But one subject that was not really touched on is the ongoing feud at Cash Money involving Wayne and Baby. At 17 tracks, the subject was avoided in them all.  Aubrey did find time to address one subject on the track “6pm in New york” and that is about the comments fellow label-mate Tyga voiced in his Vibe interview.

I heard a little little homie talking reckless in Vibe
That’s quite a platform you chose, you should’ve kept it inside
Oh, you tried
It’s so childish calling my name on the world stage
You need to act your age and not your girl’s age

Safe to say that Tyga will be feeling the effects of that line for awhile. Features were kept to a minimum with the usual suspects of Weezy and PARTYNEXTDOOR showing up.  Even his go to hit makers of “40” and “Boi-1da” showed up to provide the soundscape for Drizzy’s flow. There is no denying that the record is solid and Drake continues to prove why he is one of the best in the game. Yet don’t just take my word for it, peep it below…..
